Pre Prep
The Pre-Prep programme at Think Smart is focussed on building a foundation for young children
who are getting ready for the School in 1-2 years’ time.
The programme aims to make literacy as easy and interesting for kids as never before!
Our Clever Caterpillars (Clev-Cats) curriculum is based on the renowned ‘Little Learners Love Literacy’
programme (originally designed by Maureen Pollard).
The programme complements learning at conventional Kinder and provides a head start to children at school. Children start the school with never ending enthusiasm and confidence.
How do we do it!
The programme also instils a natural interest in Kids to practise at home while using the reading material provided by us.
Our qualified teachers by virtue of their training and experience across music, art and craft, and games engage children in a fun based environment to teach them the essentials of literacy.
Children gain phonic awareness and alphabet knowledge to develop reading, spelling and writing skills. Additionally, kids achieve a marked improvement in their oral communication and motor skills, pencil holding grip, vocabulary, group based learning routine, and sharing.
Programme Structure
Run by qualified teachers in small groups (6-8 kids per group) to strike the right balance between interactive learning and individual attention.
3 Year Group:
- Weekly 1 hr. session, covering
- Introduction of a new alphabet every week focussing listening and speaking
- Alphabet related art and craft activities
- Mat Time (Milo Games and Music)
- Storytelling with a character to promote reading.
4 Year Group:
- Weekly 1.5 hr. session, covering
- Relevant extracts/techniques from 3 year curriculum
- Phonemic Awareness and alphabet knowledge
- Decodable ‘Little Learner’ books (on borrowing basis) to practise at home
- Spellings and Handwriting
- Numeracy focussing on identification of numbers & writing.
Mathematics Tutoring
At Primary School children build the blocks for further life. They move from concrete to abstract mathematics around the Grade 2- 3 age level. These are some of the areas that we cover in Primary Mathematics (up to Level 4 or Grade 6):
Basic Processes Addition, Subtraction, Division and Multiplication
Fractions, Decimals and Percentages
Basic Number, including the teaching of Times Tables
Measurement and Life Skills in Mathematics
Language Tutoring
At Primary School children build the blocks for further life. They move from concrete to abstract mathematics around the Grade 2- 3 age level. These are some of the areas that we cover in Primary Mathematics (up to Level 4 or Grade 6):
- At Think Smart we get back to the basics of Language
- Phoenetics and the use of syllables
- Creative and Analytical Writing including sentence structure, verbs, adjectives and adverbs
- Grammar and Punctuation (not Spell Checks!)
- A variety of Spelling Techniques
- Oral communication and public speaking.
Secondary
Secondary includes middle and high school. It involves two important phases VCE, Scholarship and SEAL. It is a huge leap from primary and it is essential that the basics of primary school are honed on to overcome the hurdles.
We specialise in having small groups for scholarship preparation and well as SEAL entrance exams. Our small groups make it easier for the students to clarify their doubts and have increased their understanding of the concepts. We have had numerous successes with our students securing various scholarships.
We have tutors in the following areas of VCE:
- All areas of Mathematics, including Specialist Maths, Maths Methods and Further Maths.
- Chemistry and Physics
- English Expression and Literature
- And, other subjects on request
Assessment: Each student is individually assessed and any key issues outlined.
